Arbër Abilaliaj's 44th-minute goal was enough for KS Flamurtari to earn a 1-0 win against FK Kukësi in Sunday's Albanian Cup final.
League runners-up Kukës had the bulk of the first-half chances, Dritan Smajli spurning the best of them three minutes before Flamurtari made what proved the decisive breakthrough, midfielder Abilaliaj finishing at the second attempt after Argjend Halilaj had saved his first effort. Sokol Cikalleshi and Cameroon striker Pierre Boya had opportunities after the break for Kukës, but Flamurtari ultimately did enough to secure their fourth Albanian Cup – and first since 2008/09.
"It has been a very difficult year for us, but we were able to overcome all those adversities and win this cup," said Flamurtari coach Ernest Gjoka, whose side finished sixth in the league. "It is a great win for the team, our club and all the fans."
