West Bromwich Albion FC have parted company with manager Pepe Mel having managed to avoid relegation at the end of the Premier League campaign.
West Brom finished 17th, three points clear of Norwich City FC in the final relegation slot, but decided to part company with the 51-year-old Spanish coach who recorded three wins and six draws from 17 Premier League games after taking charge in January.
The Midlands club's sporting and technical director Richard Garlick said: "Both Pepe and the club set out with the best intentions of making the appointment work. However, having reflected on events both on and off the field during our talks today, it became apparent that it was in the best interests of both parties for there to be an amicable parting."
Former striker Mel started the season at Real Betis Balompié, where he was dismissed in December following a 4-0 derby defeat by Sevilla FC.
