Cagliari Calcio have chosen Zdeněk Zeman as their new coach, with the 67-year-old signing a one-year contract.
"I'm happy to be here, with a young president and the chance to get the team playing my kind of football and entertaining the fans," said the much-travelled former SS Lazio and AS Roma boss. "I'm 67 and I keep coaching because I love to be out on the pitch. The older I get, the more I like to work with young players because they make me feel young."
Cagliari dismissed coach Diego López in April, with Ivo Pulga taking the reins and helping the Sardinian club keep their top-flight status with a 15th-place finish in Serie A. With a new president, Tommaso Giulini, Cagliari have turned to Zeman hoping to get better results – and play attacking football – in the coming campaign.
