"It is great for us to win this title and now we are under no pressure in the league," said captain Baldur Sigurdsson as KR Rejkyavík beat Keflavík to take the Icelandic Cup.

"It does not get any better than scoring when it says 90 minutes on the clock," said captain Baldur Sigurdsson after a late strike gave KR Rejkyavík their 14th Icelandic Cup.

Hördur Sveinsson had given Keflavík an early lead in the 56th Icelandic Cup, played in front of a crowd of 4,694 at Laugardalsvöllur, but Grétar Sigurdsson responded quickly for KR. Sveinsson and Almarr Ormarsson went on to hit the post for their respective sides, before Kjartan Henry Finnbogason hit the winner on 92 minutes, following up after Gary Martin's shot failed to find the net. "I am sure we will be furious with ourselves when we see the replay of KR's winner on TV," said Keflavík coach Kristján Gudmundsson.

Baldur Sigurdsson, meanwhile, took time to reflect, having won the Icelandic Cup with Keflavík back in 2006. "My first big cup was with Keflavík and that memory will stay with me, just as this one will — you cannot choose which title is the best," he said. KR are third in the table, nine points shy of leaders Stjarnan, but Baldur Sigurdsson has not abandoned hope. "It is great for us to win this title and now we are under no pressure in the league," the 29-year-old said. "I can promise you we are not about to give in."
