Faroe Islands Under-21 international Gunnar Zachariasen has died at the age of 22 following a workplace accident.
"We are in shock after the loss of a good companion and promising player," said EB/Streymur chairman Signar í Homrum. "It is not just EB/Streymur who have lost a promising player – Faroese football has lost a lot. But first of all, our thoughts are with his closest relatives." Once a trainee with Danish club Brøndby IF, the skilful attacking midfielder scored four goals in seven games in 2015 UEFA European Under-21 Championship qualifying, including his side's opening strike of the campaign in a 2-2 draw against Romania.
