English League Cup – semi-finals
• Liverpool FC draw 1-1 at Anfield with Chelsea FC in the first leg of their semi-final. 
• Eden Hazard puts the visitors ahead from the spot after being fouled by Emre Can.
• Raheem Sterling equalises for Liverpool with a solo strike just before the hour.
• Steven Gerrard hits the upright as the Reds push for a second goal.
• Brendan Rodgers: "I'm delighted with the performance, disappointed with the result."
• The return leg takes place in west London next Tuesday.

Coppa Italia – round of 16
• An extra-time spot kick from Daniele De Rossi gives AS Roma a 2-1 home win against Empoli FC.
• Juan Manuel Iturbe scores early on, Empoli's Simone Verdi (80) forces an additional 30 minutes.
• The Giallorossi will play ACF Fiorentina or Atalanta BC in the quarter-finals on 3 February.

French Cup – round of 32
• Fourth-tier US Quevilly, finalists in 2012, stun top-flight SC Bastia 3-1 on penalties after a 1-1 draw.
• Bastia take the lead in extra time through Djibril Cissé, Adama Sarr (114) levels.
• Vincent Bessat registers a hat-trick as FC Nantes beat Ligue 1 leaders Olympique Lyonnais 3-2. 
• FC Metz prevail 3-0 at US Avranches, all of the goals coming in extra time.
