We wanted to keep close to Real Madrid and Barcelona in the league, and we have earned three points on a great afternoon for us. We didn't give Real Madrid a chance, and it all went well for us from the first minute.
We were intense from the first minute, Madrid had a game in midweek, which they paid for. We know in front of our own crowd we're strong and we showed it. I've been there when we couldn't beat them, and now this, in which everything is going well for us. We have things clear, we are very strong and we have an identity. Following this route, winning is always possible.
Carlo Ancelotti, Madrid coach
We played badly. It was an awful game. The worst. But I'm confident these players can recover from this; we had a good response when we lost at Anoeta and now we will do so again. All the players have understood that.
Dani Carvajal, Real Madrid defender
Firstly we have to say sorry to the fans. We weren't at it and we have to say well done to Atlético because they were better. We need to forget the game and result ASAP. Recently they've come out on top and we need to reverse the way things are going. It's a league game, not a knockout game but it still hurts. I repeat: we have to forget this as soon as we can.
