A goal and two assists from Roland Varga inspired Ferencvárosi TC to a comprehensive 4-0 victory over newly-crowned First League champions Videoton FC in the Hungarian Cup Final.

In their own stadium, the Budapest club scored four goals in the second half to set a new Hungarian record of 21 cup wins and claim a first major trophy in 11 years. "It's been a wonderful evening," said Ferencváros' German coach Thomas Doll. "After the first half, I could not have imagined such a result would come to pass."

Indeed, Videoton had two gilt-edged chances in the first period, Nemanja Nikolić having a shot deflected wide and goalkeeper Dénes Dibusz blocking Ádam Gyurcsó's low shot. Just before half-time, Ferencváros veteran Zoltán Gera's snapshot from Roland Lamah's knockdown flew wide.

Juan Carrillo's men duly fell behind in the 54th minute as winger Varga nodded in Cristian Ramírez's outswinging cross. The Videoton defence found it hard to cope with the conditions as a storm broke over the city and Paulo Vinícius' misjudgement let Lamah in only for Juan Calatayud to save well. However, Bence Batik touched in Varga's left-wing cross on the hour to extend the Ferencváros lead.

Videoton were stunned and Doll's team capitalised again on 69 minutes, Lamah scoring with a back-post header. Roland Szolnoki's own goal compounded the Videoton misery and capped an extraordinary evening for Hungary's most successful club.

"At half-time I had to reorganise the defence and everyone did their job," said Doll. "We scored the first goal at an important time. I am proud of the boys and happy that Ferencváros have won a major honour again after 11 years."
