FC BATE Borisov recorded an impressive 4-1 victory against FC Shakhtyor Soligorsk in Gomel to claim their third Belarusian Cup.
After a goalless first period at the Tsentralny Stadium, BATE took just seven second-half minutes to get their noses in front as Mikhail Gordeichuk broke the deadlock from Vitali Rodionov's assist.
Provider turned scorer 11 minutes later, before Aleksandr Karnitski made it 3-0 in the 65th minute. Shakhtyor pulled one back via former BATE forward Dmitri Komarovski, but Nikolai Signevich swiftly restored the three-goal advantage as the league leaders prevailed.
"The main thing is we won the trophy," said victorious coach Aleksandr Yermakovich. "We have not won the cup for a long time [since 2010]. The first half was an even affair and both teams had opportunities. However, we managed to score first after the break and, in cup games, the first goal is very important."
Shakhtyor coach Sergei Bobrovski added: "What can I say? We made too many mistakes. We had some pretty good chances in the first half, but our passing was poor. BATE do not let you get away with that. Once we conceded, our task became much more difficult."
