The UEFA Foundation for Children is contributing to the 70th anniversary of the United Nations with a photo exhibition on the Za'atari refugee camp in Jordan. The exhibition will be on show at the Palais des Nations in Geneva on Saturday 24 October.
This exhibition will give visitors a fascinating view into the life of Syrian refugees at one of the largest refugee camps in Jordan, as well as the opportunity to find out more about the work of the UEFA Foundation for Children, which was launched in April this year.
The Palais des Nations, home of the United Nations Office at Geneva (UNOG), will open its doors to the public on Saturday from 10.00 to 17.00CET, to mark the 70th anniversary of the United Nations.
Nearly 80,000 Syrian refugees – 57% of whom are children – live at the camp, the population of which is equivalent to the third largest city in Jordan. In collaboration with the UNHCR and the Asian Football Development Project, the UEFA Foundation for Children is helping children and young people at the camp through sports activities, in particular football, to allow them to play and remain children in a situation of war.
The exhibition aims to give a voice to children through the camera lens, and to also show how sport can bring a breath of fresh air into children's lives. It portrays how lives continue within the context of living in the camp.
Professional photographers Rawan Risheq (Jordan) and Pascale Collet (France) give an external perspective, while other photographs have been taken by the children, who received training as photographers, and were provided with digital cameras by the UEFA foundation.
