Barcelona lift Copa del Rey, Braga upset Porto

Barcelona secure Spanish double
There was no fairytale ending to the week for Sevilla as the UEFA Europa League winners suffered a 2-0 extra-time loss to holders Barcelona in a feisty Copa del Rey final. Three red cards were shown, and it was Barça defender Javier Mascherano who received the first for bringing down Kevin Gameiro on 36 minutes, before the Liga champions lost Luis Suárez to a suspected hamstring problem. Sevilla were unable to make those losses count, however, and Unai Emery's charges were reduced to ten men themselves when Éver Banega was given his marching orders for a foul on Neymar in added time.

That seemed to lift Barcelona, and Luis Enrique's side took the lead when Jordi Alba fired past Sergio Rico with 97 minutes gone after being picked out superbly by Lionel Messi. Having dominated, Sevilla were now facing defeat, and they were rocked again when Daniel Carriço collected a second yellow card as the final whistle loomed – before Messi set up Neymar to cap Barça's victory right at the end.

"It was an intense and exciting final – a real last push for the club to complete a magnificent season," commented Blaugrana midfielder Andrés Iniesta. "We're delighted to have finished the campaign in this way. We knew what we had to do – sometimes it came off and sometimes it didn't, but in the end we got the job done."

Braga savour Portuguese Cup success
Braga have won the Portuguese Cup for the second time in their history – exactly 50 years to the day since their first success – after Marafona saved two spot kicks in a 4-2 shoot-out victory against Porto. Paulo Fonseca's side squandered a two-goal lead as André Silva's double took the match into extra time. Yet it was Marafona who grabbed the headlines, saving efforts by Hector Herrera and Maxi Pereira, as last season's runners-up made amends, while Porto ended a disappointing campaign without a trophy. "This was our main objective for the season," said Fonseca. "Our players wanted this very badly. It was difficult, but this group deserved it."

Armenian breakthrough for Alashkert
Alashkert are celebrating their maiden Armenian title after posting a 2-0 win away to Mika in the final round of games on Sunday. The club founded in 2011 needed a draw to keep closest rivals Shirak at bay but opened the scoring on 20 minutes as Mihran Manasyan finished from close range following a Héber dos Santos through ball. The Brazilian provider then converted from the spot with 20 minutes to go after being impeded by goalkeeper Arsen Beglaryan, who was dismissed. Alashkert can now look forward to a spot in UEFA Champions League qualifying.

Double joy for Lincoln
Lincoln have completed another league and cup double in Gibraltar after seeing off Europa 2-0 in Sunday's Rock Cup final. Joseph Chipolina and Liam Walker got the goals as the Red Imps continued their domination of the domestic game, winning both the major competitions for the third year in succession.

Jelgava continue Latvian Cup run
The Latvian Cup belongs to Jelgava once again as the knockout specialists clinched their third successive triumph in the competition by defeating Spartaks Jūrmala 1-0 in the final. The holders lost coach Vitālijs Astafjevs a day before the showpiece after he left due to poor league results, but they went ahead when Kyrylo Silich made the most of good work out wide by Glebs Kļuškins and Boriss Bogdaškins. "It was an even game before the goal and unfortunately Jelgava scored that goal, not Spartaks," said defeated coach Oleg Kubarev. "I want to congratulate Jelgava on this victory – they really know how to get the result in cup ties."

Kukës claim revenge
A year after losing 2-1 to Laç in the Albanian Cup final, Kukës exacted revenge in the showpiece with a 5-3 penalty shoot-out victory at the end of a 1-1 draw. Looking to lift the cup for the first time in their history, Kukës went ahead through Jean Carioca midway through the second half, only for Aldo Mitraj to level for the holders in added time. However, Klodian Duro's men shone from their spot to seal a berth in UEFA Europa League qualifying.
