Former Republic of Ireland player and manager Liam Tuohy has died at the age of 83.

A winger for Shamrock Rovers, he played professional football in England with Newcastle United and scored four goals in eight senior international appearances. Manager of the national team from 1971-73, Tuohy also led Dundalk, Shamrock Rovers and Shelbourne, as well as playing a significant role in the ongoing development of Irish football as manager of the Under-19 national team.

Football Association of Ireland (FAI) chief executive John Delaney said: "Liam Tuohy was a wonderful football man with a quick wit and tremendous knowledge of the game. His loss is such sad news for Irish football."
