The countdown to UEFA Women's EURO 2017 begins in earnest today, exactly 100 days until the big kick-off in the Netherlands.

The Dutch hosts – and the Royal Netherlands Football Association (KNVB) – are adding the finishing touches to preparations for a spectacular final tournament which will take place over three weeks this summer.

Between 16 July and 6 August, 31 matches will be played across seven cities: Breda, Deventer, Doetinchem, Enschede, Rotterdam, Tilburg and Utrecht.

The bigger-than-ever Women’s EURO finals are an exciting proposition for UEFA President Aleksander Čeferin, who commented: "For the first time 16 teams will be taking part in the tournament – giving more associations and more players the opportunity to savour the special atmosphere of this high-profile event. We look forward to it – only 100 days to go!"

An impressive range of activities are marking the 100 days to go celebrations in the host cities and beyond, including a friendly match between the Netherlands and France, and a Funpark giving a taste of the forthcoming tournament to visitors to the Netherlands.

The Dutch finals are expected to further advance the development of women's football across Europe, inspiring young girls to play the game and enjoy the benefits of team sport.

During the tournament, UEFA and the KNVB – in collaboration with social responsibility partners the World Heart Federation, Hartstichting, and Healthy Stadia – will also be promoting 'healthy hearts', with the goal of increasing awareness of the importance of sport and encouraging children, women and fans in general to be more active in their everyday lives. Cardiovascular disease remains the first cause of premature deaths among women in Europe.
