Eggert Magnússon's reign as president of the Football Association of Iceland (KSÍ) has been extended for another two years after his re-election at their 58th annual congress in Selfoss.
Board re-elected
Magnússon has been at the helm for 14 years, and his board of vice-president Halldór Jónsson vice-president, secretary Jón Gunnlaugsson, Ágúst Ingi Jónsson, Ástrádur Gunnarsson, Björn Fridthjófsson, Lúdvík Georgsson and Ingibjörg Hinriksdóttir were also re-elected for two years.
TV deal extended
The president also announced that the KSÍ's television contract with German Sport-Five for the national team, Icelandic Premier Division and Icelandic Cup has been extended until 2009 and that there are plans to enlarge the seating capacity of the national stadium from 7,000 to 13,000 or 14,000 in a redevelopment also improving commercial facilities.
Top-flight proposal
Meanwhile, the KSÍ is to examine increasing the Premier Division to 12 clubs from ten for 2005, a season earlier than planned, and is also to allow players to seek a new side after 15 October if his contract is due to expire on 31 December of the same year.
Academy award
It was also agreed that in future the player of the year award will be decided by a new 100-member Academy comprising ex-players, coaches and media representatives, and the KSÍ also expressed its gratitude to UEFA for a grant allowing the installation of more artificial pitches.
