Maltese dignitaries welcome UEFA

UEFA president Michel Platini and senior UEFA officials met with the Maltese president and prime minister ahead of the UEFA Executive Committee's conference in Valletta.

UEFA president Michel Platini and senior UEFA officials have met with Maltese dignitaries during a visit to the Mediterranean island.

Meetings
Mr Platini and UEFA general secretary Gianni Infantino met Malta prime minister Lawrence Gonzi at the Auberge de Castille and, joined by the UEFA Executive Committee, they were then received by the country's president, Georges Abela, at his palace in Valletta. They also met the speaker of Malta's House of Representatives, Louis Galea.

Maltese centenary
The appointments came ahead of the Executive Committee's first meeting of the year in Valletta, which takes place today and tomorrow. During their stay UEFA officials are joining in celebrations to mark 100 years of national football competitions on the island, and 50 years of full membership of UEFA and word football's governing body FIFA.
