Bosnia and Herzegovina beat Ivory Coast

Bosnia and Herzegovina stepped up their FIFA World Cup preparations with a 2-1 victory against the Ivory Coast in Missouri.

The Bosnians' all-time leading scorer, Edin Džeko struck both his country's goals, with Didier Drogba on the mark from a free-kick for the Ivory Coast. Bosnia and Herzegovina's triumph was their first on United States soil.

It was an even game throughout, Zvjezdan Misimović with the first clear opportunity after 11 minutes. Though that chance went begging, Safet Sušić's side were in front six minutes later, Džeko finishing from around 16 metres out after Edin Višća's cross had bounced off Ivory Coast goalkeeper Sylvain Gbohouo.

Džeko passed up three further openings before doubling his tally soon after the interval when he vollied in Miralem Planić's pass. Drogba came off the bench to half his team's deficit with an extraordinary effort through the wall from around 18 metres out. Bosnia and Herzegovina had done enough, however, and can now look forward to their next friendly, against Mexico on Wednesday. They face Argentina, Iran and Nigeria in World Cup Group F.
