B36 retain Faroese title for first time

B36 Tórshavn have clinched back-to-back Faroese titles for the first time in their history after beating seventh-placed TB Tvøroyri 2-1 to establish an unassailable ten-point lead with three games to spare.

"This is really special," said midfielder Róaldur Jakobsen. "Strangely enough, we have never managed to retain the championship before. Now we've finally managed to do that. We really wanted to do so in 2012 but we didn't succeed. However, to do it now is absolutely fantastic."

B36 secured their 11th championship – and a UEFA Champions League qualifying berth – after second-placed NSÍ Runavík were held to a goalless draw by HB Tórshavn. The champions failed to reach the second qualifying round of Europe's premier club competition this season following a 6-2 aggregate loss to The New Saints, and will thus be keen for an improved showing next term.

Having missed a penalty in the first half, B36 eventually broke the deadlock against TB when Høgni Eysturoy slotted home following the restart. However, five minutes later, Patrik Johannesen nodded the visitors level. The holders responded via Hanus Thorleifsson's 68th-minute clincher to retain their crown as nearest challengers NSÍ failed to find the breakthrough required against HB.
