Football Association (FA) chairman Greg Dyke has paid tribute to former England right-back and renowned technician Don Howe, who has died at the age of 80.

In an official statement, Dyke wrote: "He is widely regarded as being in the vanguard of coaching in England, and I know that his loss will be keenly felt amongst the coaching fraternity in particular and not least by [current England manager] Roy Hodgson, who was close to Don."

A defender for West Brom and Arsenal – who he later coached – Howe was a key member of the England national-team coaching staff under Ron Greenwood, Sir Bobby Robson and Terry Venables.
