Moldova round-up: Dacia down Tiraspol

Newcomers FC Dacia Chisinau continue to set the season alight as they beat FC Tiraspol 1-0.

FC Dacia Chisinau continue to set the Divizia Nationala alight as they recorded another victory, beating FC Tiraspol 1-0 on Sunday, to keep pace with the leaders, FC Sheriff Tiraspol.

Adapted with ease
Dacia, who since being promoted have adapted superbly to the top flight to remain unbeaten, stunned Tiraspol with Liviu Andriuta scoring the only goal. The so-called 'team of no stars' are currently third in the league and earning plaudits from all quarters. "If the new boys continue like that, they might be in contention for the top spots," Tiraspol's coach Igor Nakonechny said.

Sheriff stay top
In the weekend's biggest fixture, Sheriff celebrated a victory over rivals FC Nistru Otaci. Nistru went ahead after a long-range shot from Andrei Matiura but Andriy Nesteruk equalised and substitute Evgheny Patula struck twice to clinch a 3-1 victory for the defending champions.

Chisinau in fine form
Also on Sunday, FC Agro Chisinau beat FC Hîncesti 2-0, while FC Zimbru Chisinau beat local rivals FC Politehnica Chisinau 5-0 yesterday.
