Turkey round-up: Besiktas beaten at home

Besiktas JK failed to make the most of Galatasaray SK's defeat, as they lost 2-1 to MKE Ankaragücü.

Besiktas JK failed to make the most of Galatasaray SK's stormy defeat to Fenerbahçe SK, as they went down 2-1 at home to MKE Ankaragücü on Sunday evening.

Audacious lob
Augustin Ahinful put the visitors in front with an audacious lob over Thomas Myhre from all of 35 metres after only five minutes, but Besiktas came storming back into the game when Tümer Metin pounced on Zafer Ozgultekin's error in the visitor's goal to level the scores nine minutes later.

Late winner
Ahmet Dursun looked to have put Besiktas in front after 57 minutes but a despairing lunge from Niyazi Guney cleared the ball off the line. Ankaragücü were reduced to 10-men in the 70th minute when Yilmaz Ozlem was dismissed for his second bookable offence. But as Besiktas poured forward in search of the winner they were caught out by a break from Hakan Keles, who crossed to an unmarked Ozgur Volkan Yildirim to score, with six minutes remaining.

Six points
Besiktas stay third, two points ahead of fourth-placed Ankaragücü, but two behind Fenerbahçe, and six adrift of the leaders Galatasaray. Trabzonspor move up to seventh after sweeping aside Istanbulspor AS 2-0. Marco Aurelio put Trabzonspor in front within 60 seconds of the kick-off and followed up that up with a header early in the second half.

Zafer Biryol double
Göztepe were comfortable 3-0 winners against Kocaelispor. Two goals in the opening 28 minutes from Zafer Biryol put the home side in control of the game, and Mustafa Ozkan made sure of the result midway through the second half. Zafer Biryol could have made it four near the end, but his header came back off the crossbar.

Rizespor draw
In the day's other game Rizespor were lucky to come away with a point after Ozman Kazmaz scored a 90th-minute penalty, to level the scores at Antalyaspor at 2-2. Struggling Antalyaspor twice took the lead through Saffet Akyuz but were pegged back, first by Recep Asil, and finally by Kazmaz from the penalty spot, after he was brought down in the area.
