Gray day at Leeds

Members

Leeds United AFC are looking for a new manager after Eddie Gray was relieved of his duties.

Relegation confirmed
Gray had taken charge of the Premiership side following Peter Reid's departure last November. However, he was unable to save the 2001 UEFA Champions League semi-finalists from relegation, which was confirmed with Saturday's 3-3 draw against Charlton Athletic FC. Assistant coach Kevin Blackwell will lead the team for their final match of the season against Chelsea FC on Saturday.

New position
Gray, 56, was told the news in a meeting with the club's board today. The former Leeds winger will stay at the club in a consultancy role, with a one-year contract starting from 1 June. His duties will include advising the board on footballing issues but there will be no coaching responsibilities.

Thanks offered
Speaking to the Leeds website, club chairman Gerald Krasner said: "We had a very productive meeting with Eddie today and the decision was amicable. I'd like to take this opportunity to thank Eddie for his contribution to Leeds United this season - probably one of the hardest on record."
