Cissé handed five-match ban

Djibril Cissé has been suspended following incidents at a UEFA European Under-21 Championship tie.

Cissé did not leave pitch
French forward Cissé was sent off for deliberately kicking an opponent. The player then did not leave the pitch immediately, protesting and insulting the referee as well as acting aggressively towards Portuguese players. At the end of the game, another French player, Gaël Givet, acted in a particularly aggressive and insulting way towards the referee and was therefore suspended for two matches.

Bans apply at EURO 2004™
As both players are no longer eligible to play for the U21 team, these suspensions will apply to France's games at UEFA EURO 2004™ in Portugal next summer.

Federation fine
A fine of €6,400 was also imposed on the French Football Federation for the general improper conduct of its players as well as for delaying the kick-off of the first half of extra time. The Portuguese Football Federation was fined the same amount and ordered to pay for damages caused by its players in a dressing room at the end of the match.

Turkey ban
Meanwhile, the Control and Disciplinary Body has also ordered the Turkish Under-21 team to play their first two home games of the UEFA European Under-21 Championship 2004/06 behind closed doors.

Fine also imposed
The decision related to events at Turkey's U21 play-off match against Germany in Istanbul on 18 November. Numerous missiles were thrown on to the pitch, hitting the referee and two match officials while one of the assistant referees was also kicked in the tunnel. A fine of €32,100 was imposed on the Turkish Football Association for these incidents as well as for physical attacks on German players by Turkish security staff.

Two suspensions
Two Turkish players were also suspended - Beyhan Sümer for five matches for being sent off and for attacking the German goalkeeper at the end of the game, and Aslan Kemal for four matches for punching two German players in the face after the final whistle. These punishments will be in force for the 2006 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign.

Emre suspension
The Turkish FA was also fined €19,300 for the improper and aggressive behaviour of its players and officials towards the referee at the end of the game, as well as for delaying the kick-off of the EURO 2004™ play-off against Latvia in Riga on 15 November. Turkish player Emre Asik was banned for four matches for elbowing an opponent during that game.

Giggs suspension
In other decisions, Wales's Ryan Giggs was suspended for two matches for elbowing a Russian opponent during the EURO 2004™ play-off tie in Moscow on 15 November.

Galatasaray fine
Finally, Galatasaray SK received a €32,100 fine for the setting off and throwing of numerous Bengal lights and missiles at their UEFA Champions League game against Olympiacos CFP in Istanbul on 21 October.
