PSG want to cancel Yakin deal

Paris Saint-Germain FC have announced they will "carry on no further" with the signing of Hakan Yakin.

Disagreement over fitness
Yakin only joined the Parisians from FC Basel a few weeks ago but a disagreement over his fitness means PSG want to cancel the transfer without his having played a single competitive fixture.

Contract 'not validated'
On Friday the 26-year-old underwent groin surgery in Switzerland against PSG's wishes, and despite the fact his new employers had told FIFA they would call off the transfer if the operation went ahead. A statement on PSG's website said Yakin was now "a Basel player" as his contract was not "validated".

PSG statement
Yakin signed a four-year contract in a €1.7m deal but PSG consider that "contrary to his statements and the answers he provided at his medical, the player was not physically able to play high-level sport on the day he signed his contract".

Basel return
PSG have paid Basel €1m already for Yakin's services. For PSG coach Vahid Halilhodzic, meanwhile, there is now the problem of finding a new playmaker to supply his Portuguese striker Pauleta, another summer recruit.
