"It is good for any player to have a contract with a big club like Benfica," Garcia said. "There has been a lot of talk about this, and finally things have happened. I really want to do well there." Garcia will report for pre-season training at Benfica but could return to Alverca on loan for the 2003/04 season.
Second signing
The 22-year-old becomes the club's second new recruit after winger Alex, who will arrive from Moreirense FC at the end of the current campaign. Benfica can seal second place in the Super Liga and qualification for the UEFA Champions League with victory over Sporting Clube de Portugal in the Lisbon derby this weekend.
