Tobol dominated proceedings at their Centralny stadium but could only manage a single goal in a game brought forward because of the club's UEFA Intertoto Cup commitments next month. Former Kazakh international Nurken Mazbaev was the match-winner for Vladimir Mukahnov's men with a 20th-minute strike.
Leadership contest
Tobol are now one point clear of title favourites FC Zhenis Astana although they have played a game more. Yesil remain in fifth place.
