Prodan makes Chinese getaway

Romanian defender Daniel Prodan's transfer to Chinese club Shandong Luneng Tai has fallen through.

Daniel Prodan's transfer to Shandong Luneng Tai has fallen through after the defender failed to agree personal terms with the Chinese side.

'Different conditions'
The 30-year-old Romanian international had agreed a one-year deal with the club and had travelled to China with his agent where he spent eight days with his prospective employers. Prodan refused to confirm the reasons for the deal's collapse, saying: "I decided to come back because the conditions we spoke about in Bucharest were not the same as the conditions I found in China. There are reasons the transfer didn't take place but I want to keep them to myself."

Experience abroad
Prodan, whose career has included spells abroad with Club Atlético de Madrid, Rangers FC and FC Messina, is expected to return home and rejoin Divizia A side FC National Bucuresti, who had allowed him to move to China on a free transfer. Capped 54 times by his country, Prodan appeared at the 1994 FIFA World Cup finals and at EURO 96™.
