A terrific last-gasp save from David James ensured Manchester City FC halted Chelsea FC's winning run in the Premiership with a 0-0 draw at Stamford Bridge on Sunday evening.
Nine-point gap
In the fourth minute of added time the ball fell to Chelsea midfield player Frank Lampard, who volleyed goalwards only to see James dive to his right and palm the effort to safety. Although Chelsea have not conceded a league goal for nine games, the stalemate brought an end to their eight-match winning run and means City's rivals Manchester United FC are now nine points behind the leaders.
Fowler chance
City are the only team to defeat José Mourinho's side in the Premiership this season and could have stunned them again had Robbie Fowler found his range. After Chelsea striker Mateja Kezman failed to hit the target from close range it was Fowler who squandered the finest chance of the first half, diving to head wide from a Shaun Wright-Phillips cross.
Chelsea frustrated
Duff raced through during the second half but was brought down by Paul Bosvelt on the edge of the area, from where Lampard struck a low free-kick straight at an unsighted James as Chelsea's frustrations grew. The goalkeeper was at his finest again in added time, securing the draw which leaves City tenth ahead of next weekend's Manchester derby.
Late leveller
Earlier in the afternoon, an added-time equaliser from substitute Marcus Bent salvaged a 2-2 draw for Everton FC at struggling Southampton FC. Former Southampton striker James Beattie opened the scoring in the fourth minute before Peter Crouch's 37th-minute header restored parity. The speedy Henri Camara looked to have marked a sparkling home debut with the winning goal, only for Bent's equally fine finish to ensure a dramatic denouement.
Relegation zone
The south-coast side now sit three points adrift of safety in the relegation zone, while Everton remain on course for the fourth and final UEFA Champions League berth.
