European referees for FIFA celebrations

Refereeing

Officials from the seven founding countries will take charge of FIFA's centenary matches.

European referees and assistant referees have been appointed by FIFA for forthcoming matches celebrating the world body’s centenary.

Founding countries
For the two matches at the Stade de France in Paris on 20 May, FIFA said that it had chosen match officials from Belgium, Denmark, France, Netherlands, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland in honour of the seven associations' role in founding the world governing body on 21 May 1904.

Mejuto appointed
Spaniard Manuel Enrique Mejuto González, who is also one of the 12 referees for UEFA EURO 2004™ in Portugal this summer, will take charge of the match between the reigning European champions, France, and world title holders, Brazil. He will be accompanied by assistant referees Henrik Andren (Sweden) and Arie Brink (Netherlands), and fourth official Claus Bo Larsen (Denmark).

Petignat in charge
Prior to the France-Brazil game, Switzerland's Nicole Petignat – the first women to referee a UEFA men's club competition match last autumn - will officiate at the match between a FIFA Women's World Stars team and current women's world champions Germany. Nelly Viennot (France) and Corinne Lagrange (France) will be her assistants, and Claudine Brohet (Belgium) is the fourth official.
