'Dream move'
The 27-year-old had been poised to join Portsmouth FC after impressing in a friendly match for the south-coast club last Saturday. However, Eriksson moved swiftly to secure the former FC Barcelona and SL Benfica man on a one-year contract. "It's been a dream for me to play in England, and this is a dream as well to come to a club like Manchester City," Geovanni told the club's website. He had been looking for a new club after leaving Cruzeiro EC in his homeland. City have already signed Italian striker Rolando Bianchi and Swiss midfielder Gelson Fernandes since Eriksson took charge on 6 July.
