Sablé severs St-Etienne ties

RC Lens have confirmed the signing of AS Saint-Etienne captain Julien Sablé, who made a "heartbreaking" decision to end his 12-year association with Les Verts.

RC Lens have confirmed the signing of AS Saint-Etienne captain Julien Sablé, who ends a 12-year association with Les Verts.

'Heartbreaking' departure
The 26-year old midfielder was born in Marseille but has spent his entire professionnal career with St-Etienne since joining the club at the age of 14, appearing in 302 league matches. "It's hearbreaking to let him go, but it's his choice" said St-Etienne co-president Bernard Caïazzo. "I think he's as moved as we are. We wish him good luck." Sablé becomes the third new signing of the summer for Lens - who will play in the UEFA Intertoto Cup third round - following the arrivals of AJ Auxerre winger Kanga Akalé and goalkeeper Vedran Runje from R. Standard de Liège.
