Fulham FC have dismissed manager Chris Coleman, with Northern Ireland coach Lawrie Sanchez taking charge of the English Premiership strugglers on a temporary basis until the end of the season.
'Fantastic service'
"Chris Coleman has provided fantastic service during his ten years at the club and it is disappointing that the club has no alternative but to part company [with him]," Fulham announced. "As part of the restructure, [assistant manager] Steve Kean will also be replaced. After consultation with the Irish Football Association president Jim Boyce, it is agreed that Lawrie Sanchez will join as caretaker manager for the remaining five games of the season."
Disappointing run
The 36-year-old former Welsh international defender Coleman took over in 2003 having been on the Fulham coaching staff following a car crash in January 2001 which ultimately ended his playing career. He succeeded Jean Tigana at the helm and helped the team to a ninth-placed finish in 2004/05, although the west Londoners have won just one of their last 15 league matches and lie in 15th position, four points above the relegation zone with five games remaining.
