A United spokesman said: "Ben Foster has a cruciate ligament injury in his right knee and will require an operation in two to three weeks' time." The 24-year-old first suffered the injury toward the end of the current season, which he spent playing on loan at Watford FC. He returned to Old Trafford this summer with a view to challenging Edwin van der Sar for the No1 spot in the coming season. The knee injury had already ruled him out of the England squad for tonight’s UEFA EURO 2008™ qualifier against Estonia.
