Security issues were on the agenda for a workshop at the House of European Football in Nyon last week which brought together members of the UEFA Stadium and Security Committee, UEFA security officers and other safety and security specialists.
Over the two days of the workshop, participants discussed a wide variety of safety and security matters, including an analysis of incidents in UEFA competitions, UEFA's stadium safety management policies and the roles of UEFA security officers.
Daniella Wurbs, representing Football Supporters Europe (FSE), addressed the audience on the supporters' perspective of safety and security, and highlighted the preparations by fan groups in the run-up to this summer's UEFA EURO 2012 final round in Poland and Ukraine.
"This was a unique event, bringing together the members of the UEFA Stadium and Security Committee with a wide variety of safety and security experts across Europe," said the committee's chairman František Laurinec. "Over the two days those present took full advantage of the opportunity to discuss key issues facing UEFA in the area of football-related safety and security. Given the scale of incidents occurring across Europe there is no room for complacency in our approach."
