Finland round-up: Hämeenlinna on a roll

FC Hämeenlinna recorded their fourth win in a row on Sunday to move to within three points of leaders HJK Helsinki.

FC Hämeenlinna gained their fourth Finnish Veikkausliiga win in a row on Sunday, beating FC KooTeePee 2-1, to move to within three points of leaders HJK Helsinki.

Late winner
Oscar Geagea put Hämeenlinna ahead on the half-hour, and although Gabor Szilagyi quickly equalised, Hans Wikberg was on target eleven minutes from time to secure the home win.

'Lucky to avoid injuries'
Hämeenlinna coach Ville Lyytikäinen reflected on his team's fine run, saying: "Four victories and all of them by a one-goal margin, that certainly shows something. We have been lucky to avoid injuries and that was the greatest difference on Sunday. We were able to bring in fresh legs on from the bench."

Leaders held
HJK were held to a goalless draw at home to mid-table FF Jaro to double their lead over second-placed FC Haka to two points. Haka, though, have two games in hand.

Repeat victory
KuPS Kuopio moved off the bottom of the table with a second 2-1 victory against FK Jokerit in four days. KuPS secured their first win of the season at Jokerit on Thursday and Kalle Parviainen and Marco Pogio scored to repeat the trick in Sunday's home return.

Lahti joy
Inter Turku, who were not in league action, are now at the foot of the table, while FC Lahti moved to tenth place by registering their second win of the season, a 2-0 victory against TPS Turku. Njazi Kuqi gave Lahti a ninth-minute lead and Tuomas Haapala completed the victory in the final seconds.
