Beckham strike
With Madrid having been held to a 1-1 draw in the first leg by the third division club, the former England captain scored his first goal since finding the target against Real Sociedad de Fútbol on 17 September to break the deadlock in the return at the Santiago Bernabéu. Ronaldo had sent Ruud van Nistelrooy through on goal three minutes after the interval, but Beckham was on hand to steer the ball in after the Dutchman's shot was saved.
Wesley winner
Van Nistelrooy set up Ronaldo for Madrid's second and then scored a third from the penalty spot. Mario Carrizosa pulled a goal back for Écija but Van Nistelrooy hit his second of the night to make it 4-1 before youngster Rubén De la Red grabbed a fifth to complete a 6-2 aggregate victory. Meanwhile, UEFA Cup contenders Celta were knocked out of the competition after a 1-0 defeat on the night and on aggregate by Alavés. Brazilian midfielder Wesley scored the only goal just after half-time to secure victory for the second tier side.
