Costly exit
Dzajic put his departure down to the Serbo-Montenegrin champions' poor results in the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Cup, which they exited last night, losing 6-1 on aggregate to Russia's FC Zenit St. Peterburg.
'Talented generation'
"I am leaving after a series of bad results in the Champions League and UEFA Cup. I still believe we have a talented generation [of players] but the club is currently in a crisis caused by results," Dzajic said.
Long association
Dzajic, whose team occupy sixth place in the Serbo-Montenegrin league, nine points behind leaders FK Partizan, has a long association with Crvena Zvezda dating back to his playing debut at the age of 17 in 1963.
Club president
He played for the red and whites until 1979, aside from a short stay in France, and was capped 85 times by his country. In 1979 he became the club's sports director, a position he held until 1999 when he was named president. In February, he was re-elected for a second term in that role.
