Trabzonspor coach Turgay Semercioglu has brought his brief spell in charge to an abrupt end by resigning.

Trabzonspor coach Turgay Semercioglu brought his brief spell in charge to an abrupt end by resigning on Tuesday following the 3-1 defeat by Fenerbahçe SK on Sunday.

December promotion
Semercioglu, who was previously the club's youth development officer, was promoted to the senior job at the start of December following the departure of Samet Aybaba. He leaves with the club in third place in the Turkish Superleague.

'Defeats caused uncertainty'
"I accepted the board's sudden offer without any conditions during the first half of the season," Semercioglu said. "We recorded important wins against Gaziantepspor and Galatasaray SK. Since the season resumed, we have lost to Konyaspor and Fenerbahçe but eliminated Diyarbakirspor from the Turkish Cup.

'Leaving my position'
"[However] those defeats caused uncertainity at Trabzonspor. In order to end this uncertainity and to prevent the club being further damaged I am leaving my position."

Possible return
Semercioglu added that his return to the youth development squad depended on the board. His three assistants - Orhan Çikrikçi, Ihsan Derelioglu and Bilal Çetinkaya - will contine in their current positions.
