PSV Eindhoven recorded an excellent 3-1 away win at AFC Ajax in the Dutch Eredivisie on Sunday.
Unbeaten record
Goals from Mateja Kezman, Theo Lucius and Dennis Rommedahl ensured a second straight 3-1 defeat for the Amsterdam club and kept up PSV’s unbeaten record at the Amsterdam ArenA.
Superb solo goal
PSV were two goals up after just 13 minutes through Kezman and Lucius but the hosts slowly worked their way back into the match. However Ajax were hit with a sucker punch with ten minutes to play when Rommedahl scored a superb solo goal. Ajax did bag a consolation in the 87th minute when Andre Bergdolmo fired home his first goal for the club from the penalty spot.
Van Hooijdonk hits three
Feyenoord capitalised on Ajax’s defeat by winning 3-1 at home against Willem II. The three points took them back to the top of the table. Pierre van Hooijdonk hit a hat-trick to make it for eleven for the season. The former Nottingham Forest FC and Benfica SL striker is now the top scorer in the Netherlands.
Joy for Utrecht
FC Utrecht had an enjoyable Sunday afternoon, running out 3-0 winners away at NEC Nijmegen. All the goals came in the second half from Jean-Paul de Jong, Stefan Tanghe and Ruud Berger.
