Article summary
The battle for second place in the Swedish first division intensified on Monday night as Djurgårdens IF FF and AIK Solna both recorded wins.
Article body
Djurgårdens IF FF defender Magnus Pehrsson scored a stoppage-time penalty to secure a place in Europe for his side next season.
Pehrsson slots home
Pehrsson slotted home the 92nd-minute spot kick to seal a 3-2 home win over Helsingborgs IF. The visitors went close to taking a point, despite being reduced to ten men after 20 minutes when veteran keeper Sven Andersson was sent off. It was a sad way for Andersson to end his league career. He retires at the end of this season but he is now banned from the final game of the season.
Djurgårdens in pole
The win means Djurgårdens are in pole position to claim the runners-up spot. The victory maintained the two-point gap between themsleves and AIK Solna, who registered a 2-1 win at Örebro SK FK. Both sides have one game remaining. AIK had to come from behind to claim three points. Boniventure Maruti put Örebro in front although Andreas Andersson equalised shortly after half-time. Stefan Ishizaki scored the winner two minutes from time for AIK, for whom Andreas Alm had a penalty saved by Anders Karlsson.
Malmo move up
IFK Göteborg, who were not in action, are a further point behind AIK, and can also still finish second as they have two games remaining. In Monday's other match, Malmö FF moved up to ninth place with a 3-1 home win against IF Elfsborg which leaves the visitors sweating on next Saturday's game against IFK Norrköping as they could still be relegated.
