Henriksson double
Sebastian Henriksson was Göteborg's hero, scoring twice as his side moved into second place on goal difference.
Close-range opener
The striker grabbed his first after 25 minutes, firing home from close range. Henriksson headed against a post shortly afterwards but Halmstad could have equalised, only for Robert Andersson and Emil Jensen to waste good chances.
Selakovic consolation
Henriksson added his second in the 74th minute, and though Stefan Selakovic soon pulled a goal back, Göteborg held on for victory.
One game left
Göteborg and Djurgården IF FF, who both have 44 points, are doing battle with AIK Solna, who have two points less, to finish second behind champions Hammarby IF FF.
Weekend fixtures
Göteborg travel to Helsingborgs IF on Saturday, while Djurgården are away at bottom club Trelleborgs FF. AIK must beat Malmö FF at home and hope the others slip up.
