The entire FCM Bacau squad has been put up for sale after the Romanian team's disappointing start to the season.
Rednic dismissed
Dumitru Sechelariu, president of the club's board, has already released 25-year-old defender Florin Ganea and wants to reduce the contractual terms of the rest of the squad. Sechelariu sacked coach Mircea Rednic after the 14th round of the Romanian season, which saw a 5-1 defeat by FC National Bucuresti, and appointed Gheorghe Poenaru.
UEFA Cup aim
Bacau were relegated from Divizia A at the end of last season, but Sechelariu and local investors paid to buy a place in the top flight from newly-promoted team FC Baia Mare. The club also bought five new players and hired Rednic with the aim of finishing in the top four places this season to earn a place in Europe.
Tenth place
Yet after the first half of the championship (15 rounds), Bacau were well off the pace at the top and found themselves in tenth place. They are six points behind fourth-placed FC Rapid Bucuresti but have lost their last three games with a goal difference of 1-10.
