Celtic FC's Lubomir Moravcik has been voted Slovakian player of the year for 2001.

Creative influence
The 36-year-old midfield player was the creative hub of Martin O'Neill's Scottish treble-winning side last season, contributing nine goals in all competitions. The former AS Saint-Etienne, SC Bastia and MSV Duisburg player completed his 37th international appearance this year but misses out on the chance to appear in the 2002 FIFA World Cup finals in Korea/Japan after Slovakia failed to qualify.

Runners-up
Moravcik is the ninth winner of the award, organised by the Slovakian newspaper Pravda, collecting 307 points from the panel of coaches and journalists. AC Sparta Praha defender Vladimír Labant came second, with another defender, VfL Wolfsburg's Miroslav Karhan, taking third place.

Other awards
The panel were almost unanimous in voting Róbert Vittek of ŠK Slovan Bratislava as the Under-21 player of the year. ŠK Matador Púchov's Mário Breska came second with FC Tatran Prešov's Stanislav Sestak third.
