Article body
Connah's Quay Nomads FC missed out on the chance to climb to the summit of the League of Wales on Saturday after they were held at home by Port Talbot FC.
Low on quality
Chances were hard to come by in a match low on quality as Port Talbot continually frustrated their hosts by putting as many men behind the ball as possibly. The ploy paid off as they secured a goalless draw to deny Connah's Quay the honour of taking on the leadership of the table.
Thrilling match
The result leaves Connah's Quay joint second with Bangor City FC, a point behind leaders TNS Llansantffraid FC, who secured a point in a thrilling 3-3 draw at Haverfordwest County AFC. Grant Thomas gave Haverfordwest the lead with a goal after 33 minutes, but his effort was cancelled out eight minutes later by Nicky Ward. John Toner then gave Llansantffraid the advantage with a strike a minute before the hour mark.
Crucial point
However, only six minutes had elapsed before Richard Adams responded for the hosts. Robbie Wood thought he had claimed all three points for Llansantffraid with a 78th-minute strike but the visitors joy was short-lived as Marcus Taylor hit an equaliser nine minutes from time to cap a fine match. It was a crucial point for struggling Haverfordwest, as it moves them on to 16 points and above relegation rivals Llanelli FC, who went down 2-1 at mid-table Caersws FC.
Piled on the misery
Aberystwyth Town FC heaped more misery on lowly Oswestry Town FC after thumping them 5-2 in front of their own fans, Anthony Wright and Glyndwr Hughes both scoring twice for the visitors. Afan Lido FC recorded a comfortable 4-1 home win over Rhayader Town FC, the bottom club, while Carmarthen Town AFC beat Newtown AFC 3-1 in Saturday's other match.
