Article body
Marcel Koller has taken over as coach of Grasshopper-Club with immediate effect instead of at the end of the season as previously agreed.
Permission to leave
FC St. Gallen have given Koller permission to leave now even though his contract runs until June. In December, Grasshoppers announced that Koller would replace Hans-Peter Zaugg at the end of the season.
Title winners
Zaugg led Grasshoppers to the Swiss first division title last season, his first full campaign in charge at the Geneva-based club. But this campaign, they exited the UEFA Cup at the third-round stage and are third in the Swiss first division, six points adrift of league leaders FC Basel.
Three-year deal
The 41-year-old Koller steered unfashionable St. Gallen to the league title in 2000. He will have a three-year contract at the Hardturm stadium.
