Article body
Birkirkara FC regained top spot in the Maltese Premier League with a 3-0 win against Marsa FC.
Brilliant opening goal
Michael Cutajar, back in the senior team after a lengthy absence, scored a brilliant goal for Birkirkara after just seven minutes and Marsa subsequently offered little by way of serious resistance to a confident Birkirkara side.
Three-point lead
Nigerian Chris Okoh doubled the score for Birkirkara just before half-time with his first goal for his new club and Cutajar rounded off a five-star performance by sliding home No3 on the stroke of full time. Birkirkara now lead Sliema Wanderers FC by three points and have a game in hand.
Champions triumph
Valletta FC put aside their recent disappointing performances and swept to a 3-0 victory over Hamrun Spartans. Kris Laferla put the champions ahead after only 12 minutes and Nigerian striker Chris Oretan scored twice in the 17th and 81st minutes to take his tally to 12 goals and put the seal on a comfortable victory.
Sliema star given trial
Meanwhile, Sliema striker Orosco Anoman is heading to France for a trial with AJ Auxerre at the beginning of next week. The Nigerian striker is also being monitored by a top Croatian club and a club in China. Anoman returned to Sliema this season after his brief spell with Hungarian first division Vasas SC came to an abrupt halt due to the Budapest club's financial difficulties. Anoman first arrived in Malta in 1998 and spent two seasons at Naxxar Lions FC before moving on to Sliema.
