Sporting Clube de Portugal reached the last four of the Portuguese Cup on Wednesday.

Sporting Clube de Portugal booked their place in the last four of the Portuguese Cup on Wednesday with a 4-0 win at third division outfit SC Vila Real.

Mountainous task
The home side were always going to have a mountainous task against the 1. Liga leaders and the most surprising fact was that it took 22 minutes for Sporting to get the breakthrough, Luís Filipe scoring the first of his two goals.

Comfortable win
Brazilian defender André Cruz doubled the advantage going into half-time with a 36th-minute penalty. Luís Filipe's second (57) and a Ricardo Quaresma strike 15 minutes from time capped a comfortable win for Lazlo Bölöni's side, who remain firmly on course for a domestic double.

Replay needed
The tie between SC Salgueiros and CS Marítimo, both top-flight sides, will have to be replayed after their encounter ended in a 2-2 draw after extra time. Brazilian striker Gaúcho put Marítimo ahead after two minutes, but strikes from Paraguay forward Arstides Masi (20) and Toy (38) put Salgueiros 2-1 up. Gaúcho came to the visitors' rescue with an equalising goal in the 49th minute.

Remaining tie
Elsewhere, third division Leixões SC scored a surprise 3-1 victory over Portimonense SC, their second division opponents, while FC Porto crashed 2-1 at home to SC Braga in the late match. Porto took a 52nd-minute lead through Capucho, but were eliminated following Vítor Castanheira’s 73rd-minute equaliser and Idalécio’s winning goal three minutes later.
