Belgium round-up: Anderlecht on the up

Members

RSC Anderlecht kept their title challenge alive with a 5-2 victory over RAA Louviéroise.

Flying start
The Belgian champions got off to a flying start courtesy of Nenad Jestrovic's tenth-minute opener. Croatian Ivica Mornar received a neat pass from striker Gilles de Bilde before calmly slipping it through to Jestrovic, who tapped in from close range.

Back in front
Nicolas Ouedec levelled for the visitors five minutes before half-time when he latched on to a through-ball and fired past Filip de Wilde. Anderlecht defender Bertrand Crasson put his side back in front two minutes later, however, heading home Walter Baseggio's corner. Albanian international midfielder Besnik Hasi made it 3-1 five minutes after the half-time interval with a brilliant curling free-kick and De Bilde hit the fourth just two minutes later, the Belgian international cutting inside before firing the ball home.

De Bilde double
The rout was complete 18 minutes from time when Hasils' long-range shot came back off the post only for De Bilde to score on the follow-up. Fridiric Tilmant's strike for the visitors three minutes later will have provided scant consolation.

Jestrovic happy
Yugoslavian Under-21 international Jestrovic hopes to use his performance as a platform to a place in the national team. "Everyone is praising me and congratulating me and I hope I will not let down my coach and the team in the future," Jestrovic said. "I can only dream of Dejan Savicevic calling for the national team because Yugoslavia has very good and famous forwards. My whole generation is now ready for the top squad and I hope I will get my chance."

Genk go top
While Anderlecht, who are now fifth, continued their impressive recent form KRC Genk took over the leadership overnight after claiming a 2-1 home win over R. Antwerp FC. Genk had to fight back from a goal down, however, after Stefan Leleu opened the scoring in the second minute with a header. Josip Skoko levelled for the hosts just five minutes later, tapping home Wesley Sonck's cross, and Genk claimed all three points through Skoko's second of the game on 40 minutes.

Kaklamanos equaliser
KAA Gent remain fourth in the table despite sharing the points in a 1-1 draw at home to R. Excelsior Mouscron. Christophe Gregoire gave the visitors a surprise lead in the 18th minute but Gent's Greek striker Alexandros Kaklamanos netted the equaliser five minutes after half-time.

Lommelse on the slide
Elsewhere, R. Charleroi SC beat RWD Molenbeek 3-1 at home, while KFC Lommelse SK are heading towards the relegation zone after going down 1-0 at home to mid-table K. Sint-Truidense VV. Second-placed Club Brugge KV will reclaim top spot on Sunday if they beat Sporting Lokeren St-Niklaas Waasland.
