Midfield player Fabian O'Neill moved from Juventus FC to AC Perugia on Wednesday to press his claims for a place in the Uruguay squad for the 2002 FIFA World Cup finals.
Baiocco on the move
The former Cagliari Calcio player has spent much of the past two years on the sidelines at Juventus and has become part of a deal that will take Perugia midfield player Davide Baiocco to the Delle Alpi stadium next summer with Perugia also receiving €4.85m.
'Great technical quality'
Perugia coach Serse Cosmi was delighted to have signed the 28-year-old Uruguayan. "I have always thought O'Neill was a player of great technical quality," he said. "We have missed a bit of experience in midfield and he could give us that."
Córdoba move
Perugia have also confirmed that 32-year-old Colombia goalkeeper Óscar Córdoba has finally joined on loan with a view to a permanent move after protracted negotiations with Argentinian side Club Atlético Boca Juniors. "Córdoba is a great champion on the world stage. He will contribute to the team on every level, not just in his ability on the field," club president Luciano Gaucci said. Perugia are 12th in Serie A with 22 points and face Hellas-Verona FC on Sunday.
