Netherlands round-up: Putter shines as golf balls stop play

RKC Waalwijk striker Eddy Putter headed the winning goal seven minutes from time to beat champions PSV Eindhoven 2-1 on Tuesday in a match stopped for 20 minutes after golf balls were thrown on to the pitch.

Caught on the counter
Referee Roelof Luinge took the players off on 27 minutes after picking up golf balls thrown towards the PSV goal just four minutes after Waalwijk had taken a 1-0 lead. PSV started well but were caught on the counterattack by Waalwijk as Rick Hoogendorp scored the opening goal.

Positive approach
The defending champions pushed forward with more verve after the interval and the approach paid dividends with an equaliser as Giorgi Gakhokidze scored on the hour from close range after defender Michael Lamey failed to clear. PSV looked set to build on the goal but lost their way after some brave Waalwijk defending. They were punished on the counter again, however, when Putter headed home a Garry de Graaf cross.

First home victory
It was Waalwijk's first home victory over PSV and only the second time they had beaten them after a 3-0 win in Eindhoven in 1993. Despite the defeat, PSV stay second with 40 points from 22 matches, two behind leaders AFC Ajax, who have played 20 games. Third-placed Feyenoord have 39 points but have played just 19 matches.
