Apollon Limassol FC held Division A leaders APOEL Nicosia FC to a 2-2 draw on Saturday, allowing Omonia FC to move into second place.
Points dropped
APOEL dropped two valuable points at the Tsirion Atheltic Center as home side Apollon frustrated the Nicosia club in a thrilling 2-2 draw. Apollon took a deserved lead on seven minutes after Milenko Spoljaric got on the end of Georgos Georgiou’s free-kick. Sinisa Gogic drew APOEL level from the penalty spot but Spoljaric regained the lead for Apollon with a spot-kick on the half-hour mark. Gogic converted the third penalty of the game and his second following foul on Solakis to take his season goal tally to 14.
Obajdin the hero
New Czech signing Jozef Obajdin scored a dramatic winning goal for champions Omonia deep into injury time to earn his side a vital 2-1 win over AEK Larnaca FC. AEK took a surprise lead after only 90 seconds through Georgos Kounoussis but Omonia rallied back in the second half and Belgian striker Gunter Thiebaut equalised with a header on 55 minutes. Substitute Obajdin was the hero as he drove home past AEK keeper Savvas Konstantinou in the sixth minute of injury time.
Dramatic draw
Fellow title contenders Anorthosis Famagusta FC and AEL Limassol FC played out a dramatic 2-2 draw at the Antonis Papadopoulos stadium in Larnaca. Lambros Lambrou gave AEL a 1-0 lead on 21 minutes but his goal was cancelled out just before half-time by Slawomir Majak's powerful effort. Defender Nicos Nicolaou put Anorthosis in front in the 77th minute but then turned from hero to villain after his handball presented Alexis Garpozis the perfect opportunity to equalize from the spot in the final minute of the game.
Enosis leave it late
Enosis Neon Paralimni FC grabbed a memorable 3-2 win away to Doxa Katokopia FC after being 2-0 behind with just three minutes remaining. Doxa looked to be heading towards only their third win of the season and took the lead with Elias Kapsalis's header on 20 minutes. Panagiotis Panagiotou added a second from the penalty spot but Enosis hit back late with two goals in the space of minute from Iacovos Roussos and Costas Elias. Elias grabbed the winner in the fifth minute of stoppage time from the penalty spot to lift Enosis to fifth in the Division A standings.
